THE ESCAPE - BBC ASIAN NETWORK A comedy in which Rehana and her two friends escape from prison for the day to visit her son before his wedding.
REVERSION -CENTRAL SCHOOL OF SPEECH AND DRAMA A short film about a young woman reverting to Islam and the effect it has on her friends, commissioned by the Central School of Speech and Drama.
VAMPIRE IN BRADFORD - WORK IN PROGRESS A Pakistani housewife in Bradford tries to help the elderly female community by using her powers when she becomes a vampire, but things get out of control when too many women are bitten and she has to rid the city of monsters in a comedy horror feature film. Azma received support from the BFI Early Development Fund for this project.
WINDOW - OFF THE FENCE A short play inspired by Rear Window, for part of the Hitchcock Re-Presented Festival at Leicester Curve
CLOSING TIME - CONFLICT ZONE THEATRE A collaborative piece with several other writers from areas of conflict, performed at Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Festival.
THE CROSSING - POINTED ARROW / ARAKAN CREATIVE A short filmed monologue about Ibn l Haitham, the Muslim scientist who invented the camera, as part of a larger, collaborative, immersive piece.
VAMPIRE IN BRADFORD - NEW PERPSECTIVES - Rehearsed reading about a paranormal investigator who is hired by middle aged Pakistani widow who suspects her neighbour of being a vampire.
STRANGER IN THE KITCHEN - KALI THEATRE, OFF THE FENCE Rehearsed readings. A dark comedy thriller that opens with a murder and goes on to explore the breakdown of a marriage. First performed as a staged reading by Kali Theatre, and later developed and performed as a reading by Off the Fence, with support from Out of Joint.
Azma has worked on several community writing projects and workshops with various groups, including the elderly and Asian women, with support from organisations such as Hillingdon Council, Writing East Midlands and the Imperial War Museum.
